The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has arraigned six suspects before a Chief Magistrate Court in Osogbo over the alleged assault of its personnel during an official operation in Gbongan.
The suspects—identified as Alatise (22) from Ifo, Ogun State; Akeem (31) of Obantoko, Ogun State; Jimoh (41) of Apapa Ajegun, Lagos State; Adeshina (36) from Abule Egba, Lagos State; Oladele (36) and Ayodele (36), both residents of Ifo, Ogun State—were accused of attacking officers who were on lawful duty.
State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, strongly condemned the incident, explaining that the officers were on routine patrol on March 26, 2026, to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure. He said the situation escalated after a tanker driver was stopped for routine verification, and one of the suspects allegedly provoked officers by pouring water on an operative, leading to a confrontation that resulted in injuries to NSCDC personnel.
According to the Commandant, the suspects admitted to their involvement and have been charged with conspiracy, obstruction of lawful duty, and assault on public officers. The court has ordered their remand and adjourned the case until March 31, 2026, for further proceedings.
Sotiyo warned that the Corps will not tolerate any attack on its personnel or interference with its operations, stressing that offenders will be prosecuted. He also reassured residents of Osun State of the Command’s commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and urged the public to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
