Commissioner of Police (CP) Tijani Fatai has officially assumed office as the 42nd Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, succeeding CP Olohundare Jimoh, whose tenure lasted from February 18, 2025, to March 26, 2026.
A native of Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, Fatai attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, between 1979 and 1984. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on June 10, 1994, and has since held several strategic positions nationwide. Prior to his appointment, he served as Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port, Port Harcourt.
His previous roles include Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at the Maritime Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos and at the Lagos State Command Headquarters, Ikeja. He also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Department of Finance and Administration at Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.
Fatai has held key command positions as Area Commander in Ilaro, Ogun State; Maiduguri Metro, Borno State; and Area C, Surulere, Lagos. He also served as Squadron Commander in the Police Mobile Force units in Benin, Edo State, and Akure, Ondo State.
Additionally, he was Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lagos, and Divisional Police Officer in Ogere, Ijanikin, and Alakara divisions.
A member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Fatai is widely regarded as a seasoned officer with a strong record of professionalism and dedication.
In his remarks, the new commissioner assured residents and stakeholders of his commitment to strengthening internal security, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, and building community partnerships. He pledged to sustain ongoing reforms and improve the protection of lives and property in line with global best practices.
The Lagos State Police Command called on the public to continue supporting the Force as the new leadership seeks to deepen professionalism, discipline, and service delivery.
