Police Chief Meets Trust Fund Leadership, Pushes Deeper Collaboration on Reforms


The Inspector General of Police. Olatunji Disu, received the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, and members of the Board of Directors during a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting provided an opportunity for strategic discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Trust Fund to advance ongoing reforms and improve operational effectiveness.
During the visit, the Executive Secretary reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting the police through sustained, needs driven interventions in personnel welfare, training, and operational capacity. He highlighted achievements including more than 100 training programmes for over 13,000 officers, over 170 infrastructure projects nationwide, as well as initiatives in housing, healthcare, and smart policing systems. He also emphasized plans to further enhance operational readiness, modernize facilities, and align interventions with the priorities of the police.
In response, the Inspector General stressed that a stronger and more coordinated partnership with the Trust Fund remains critical to the reform agenda of the police. He identified personnel welfare as a key priority, noting that improved housing, better access to healthcare, and timely payment of insurance and welfare benefits are essential for boosting morale, discipline, and effectiveness.
He also called for targeted welfare programmes for junior officers, pointing out that personnel at the lower ranks bear a significant share of operational responsibilities and require consistent institutional support.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building a more responsive, technology driven, and citizen focused police force through sustained collaboration with the Trust Fund.
