Eid-el-Fitr: Federal Fire Service Orders Nationwide Safety Alert, Keeps Personnel on Full Duty

As Muslims across Nigeria prepare for the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, has directed comprehensive fire safety coverage across the country throughout the public holiday period.
He assured Nigerians that all Federal Fire Service stations nationwide will remain fully operational, with firefighters and emergency response personnel on active standby to respond swiftly to any fire outbreak or related emergencies.
The Controller-General emphasised that public holidays do not suspend the responsibilities of fire service personnel, noting that officers remain fully committed to protecting lives, property, and critical infrastructure at all times.
He further highlighted that the current hot and dry weather conditions often lead to an increase in fire incidents, particularly those caused by electrical faults, cooking activities, and the careless handling of flammable materials.
Accordingly, he advised households and business owners to install and maintain essential fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, fire blankets, smoke detectors, and fire alarm systems. These tools, he noted, can help detect and contain fires at an early stage before they escalate.
While noting that portable fire safety devices can be effective in tackling minor fires, the Controller-General cautioned members of the public to exercise extreme care when attempting to extinguish fires. He stressed that if a fire appears to be spreading or beyond control, individuals should immediately evacuate the area and contact the Federal Fire Service without delay.
He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and prioritise fire safety in their homes and communities during the festive period.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any fire outbreak or related emergency through the national emergency number 112 or the Federal Fire Service emergency line 08032003557 for prompt response.
While extending advance Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslim faithful and all Nigerians, the Federal Fire Service reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and communities nationwide, and ensuring a safe and incident-free celebration for all.
