The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), CGF Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, has begun implementing far-reaching reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s national fire and emergency management system. With more than three decades of professional experience, Adeyemi has set out a comprehensive vision focused on modernization, efficiency, and improved welfare for personnel.
Since assuming office, he has prioritised a review of the Federal Fire Service Act to broaden the agency’s mandate beyond traditional firefighting duties. The proposed reform seeks to formally expand the Service’s responsibilities to include rescue operations and comprehensive emergency management, positioning it to respond more effectively to disasters and complex emergencies.
Adeyemi has also emphasised stronger inter-agency collaboration. Plans are underway to deepen operational partnerships with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), among other security and emergency institutions. In addition, the Controller-General is pursuing the modernization of firefighting equipment and the upgrading of emergency communication systems to meet global standards. Public safety awareness campaigns have also been intensified to educate citizens on fire prevention and emergency preparedness.
