Adeyemi Unveils Reform Agenda to Modernise Federal Fire Service

The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), CGF Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, has begun implementing far-reaching reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s national fire and emergency management system. With more than three decades of professional experience, Adeyemi has set out a comprehensive vision focused on modernization, efficiency, and improved welfare for personnel.
Since assuming office, he has prioritised a review of the Federal Fire Service Act to broaden the agency’s mandate beyond traditional firefighting duties. The proposed reform seeks to formally expand the Service’s responsibilities to include rescue operations and comprehensive emergency management, positioning it to respond more effectively to disasters and complex emergencies.
Adeyemi has also emphasised stronger inter-agency collaboration. Plans are underway to deepen operational partnerships with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), among other security and emergency institutions. This coordinated approach is expected to enhance rapid response capabilities and ensure better synergy during national emergencies.
Another key pillar of his agenda is the empowerment of state fire services through technical support, training, and the provision of modern firefighting tools. By strengthening sub-national structures, the FFS aims to build a more resilient nationwide emergency response framework capable of addressing contemporary risks such as industrial fires, urban disasters, and climate-related incidents.
In addition, the Controller-General is pursuing the modernization of firefighting equipment and the upgrading of emergency communication systems to meet global standards. Public safety awareness campaigns have also been intensified to educate citizens on fire prevention and emergency preparedness.
Industry professionals and emergency management experts have welcomed Adeyemi’s appointment, describing him as a technically sound leader with a clear strategic direction. Many stakeholders express confidence that his leadership will reposition the Federal Fire Service for greater efficiency, professionalism, and national impact.
Observers within the Service have also commended his commitment to staff welfare and morale, noting that improved working conditions remain central to his reform blueprint. As the reforms gain momentum, expectations remain high that the FFS will emerge stronger and better equipped to safeguard lives and property across the country.
