The Ministry of Interior and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas have agreed to establish a high level joint working group to speed up the adoption of compressed natural gas across agencies under the ministry. The decision marks a coordinated effort to expand the use of cleaner and more affordable energy within government operations.
The agreement was reached during a meeting held in Abuja between the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, and the Executive Chairman of the initiative, Ismaeel Ahmed. Both officials discussed practical steps required to ensure effective implementation across relevant departments and agencies.
During the meeting, the minister outlined several key benefits of adopting compressed natural gas. He pointed to the conversion of government vehicle fleets, improved logistics support and more efficient border operations as important gains that would strengthen service delivery.
He also noted that the transition to compressed natural gas would promote the use of cleaner energy while delivering substantial cost savings for government operations. According to him, reducing fuel expenses would free up resources for other critical areas within the ministry.
To ensure swift execution, the minister directed the immediate creation of a joint implementation team. The team is expected to coordinate planning, oversee fleet conversion and develop a clear framework for rolling out compressed natural gas usage across all agencies under the ministry.
