NIS and National Hydrography Agency Strengthen Partnership to Secure Nigeria’s Waterways

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the National Hydrography Agency have pledged to deepen their strategic partnership to enhance border security along Nigeria’s waterways and maritime domain. The collaboration aims to improve coordination in marine border governance and migration management across the nation’s territorial waters.
NIS Comptroller-General, KN Nandap, received a delegation from the National Hydrography Agency, led by Hydrographer Rear Admiral Ayo Olugbode, in Abuja. The meeting focused on advancing navigation support, technical collaboration, and conducting comprehensive hydrographic surveys.
Both agencies stressed the importance of inter-agency synergy to curb irregular migration, human trafficking, and other transnational crimes affecting Nigeria’s maritime borders. They noted that effective collaboration would strengthen national security and maritime governance.
The partnership is expected to result in enhanced operational efficiency, improved intelligence sharing, and better management of Nigeria’s waterways, ensuring safer and more secure maritime activities for commerce and border communities.
