Troops of Sector 8, Operation ENDURING PEACE, foils an attempted attack on Manja community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State

By Tony Charles, Jos

The incident occurred on Saturday after security personnel received information about the movement of armed men suspected to be planning an attack on the community.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X on Sunday, stating that troops swiftly mobilised to the area following the security alert.

The troops’ intervention reportedly forced the suspected attackers to withdraw into nearby bushes with their cattle before they could carry out the planned assault on the community.

According to the report, security personnel later received another alert at about 4:12 p.m. concerning an attempt by the suspected attackers to gain access to Manja village.

Troops immediately launched a pursuit operation while maintaining a strong security presence around the community to deter any further attempt to infiltrate the area.

The security forces also intensified offensive patrols and clearance operations across the surrounding areas as part of measures to prevent the suspected attackers from regrouping or returning to the community.

The operations were aimed at maintaining pressure on the armed group while securing residents and vulnerable locations within Manja and neighbouring communities.

Security sources said troops remained deployed in the area as operations continued, with personnel conducting patrols and monitoring the surrounding terrain.

The sustained military presence is expected to reassure residents and strengthen efforts to prevent further attacks, particularly in communities considered vulnerable to armed incursions.

The latest operation underscores the importance of timely intelligence and rapid military response in preventing attacks before they are carried out.

Authorities are expected to maintain the security operation around Manja and adjoining communities while continuing efforts to identify and neutralise threats to residents and their property.
