A school teacher abducted by bandits in Kwara State remains in captivity despite the payment of a ₦12 million ransom by family members, as the kidnappers continue to demand additional money before releasing their victim.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the teacher was kidnapped several weeks ago by armed bandits who initially demanded a substantial ransom for his freedom. After prolonged negotiations and desperate efforts by relatives and community members, the family reportedly raised and paid ₦12 million to secure his release.

However, contrary to expectations, the abductors failed to release the victim after receiving the payment. Instead, they allegedly increased their demands and insisted on receiving more money before allowing the teacher to regain his freedom.

The development has left the victim’s family devastated, as they struggle to meet the fresh demands while expressing fears for his safety and well-being. Relatives said they had exhausted their resources to raise the initial ransom and now face an uncertain future as the kidnappers continue to hold their loved one.

Community leaders and residents have condemned the incident, describing it as another troubling example of the growing insecurity and kidnapping-for-ransom crisis affecting several parts of the country.

Security analysts have repeatedly warned that the payment of ransom does not always guarantee the release of victims, as criminal gangs often exploit families’ desperation by making additional demands after receiving initial payments.

The incident has also renewed calls for stronger security measures and more effective strategies to tackle kidnapping networks operating across parts of Nigeria.

Residents have urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the teacher and bring the perpetrators to justice, stressing that innocent citizens should not be left at the mercy of criminal elements.

As of the time of filing this report, the abducted teacher remained in captivity, while authorities were yet to provide an official update on ongoing rescue efforts.
