Defence Minister Visits Zamfara, Reaffirms Federal Support for Operation Fansan Yamma

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has paid his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma in Zamfara State, underscoring the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to strengthening frontline security operations across the North-West.
The Minister was received at the operational headquarters by the Theatre Commander, Major General W.B. Idris, alongside other senior military officers. The visit provided an opportunity for the Defence Minister to assess ongoing operations, engage with field commanders, and review strategies aimed at tackling banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities in the region.
The operational tour came shortly after the commissioning of Armoured Personnel Carriers and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles procured by the Zamfara State Government to reinforce security efforts in the theatre. The acquisition of the platforms reflects collaborative efforts between federal and state authorities to enhance the effectiveness of military operations.
The newly deployed assets are expected to significantly improve troop mobility, intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance, and rapid response capabilities against armed groups. Military officials noted that the integration of advanced technology into ongoing operations would strengthen situational awareness and operational precision.
Addressing troops during the visit, Gen. Musa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to equip the Armed Forces with modern combat enablers necessary to confront evolving security threats. He commended officers and personnel for their resilience, courage, and professionalism in the face of complex operational challenges.
The Minister also assured troops of sustained logistical support, improved welfare, and enhanced operational coordination to maintain momentum in the fight against insecurity. He emphasised that restoring peace in Zamfara State remains a critical component of broader national security objectives.
In his remarks, Theatre Commander Major General Idris expressed appreciation for the continued support from both the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Government. He stated that the additional platforms and strategic backing would accelerate ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace, stability, and security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
