Rear Admiral Musa Bello Katagum, the Chief of Operations of the Nigerian Navy, Dies


The Nigerian Navy announced that Rear Admiral Katagum passed away on 19 February 2026 after a brief illness while receiving medical treatment in Egypt. He had travelled abroad for follow-up medical care after undergoing surgery but unfortunately did not recover.
In a statement, the Navy described the late senior officer as a dedicated and highly respected professional who contributed significantly to maritime security and operational effectiveness. His tenure as Chief of Operations was marked by strategic leadership and a strong commitment to strengthening naval readiness across the country’s maritime domain.
Rear Admiral Katagum previously served in several key appointments within the Navy, where he distinguished himself through discipline, intelligence, and unwavering service to the nation. His passing is regarded as a great loss to the Nigerian Navy and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
