The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has significantly bolstered its frontline strength with the graduation of 1,296 recruits from the Basic Military Training Course (BMTC) 45/2025. The Passing Out Parade, held on December 20, 2025, at the Military Training Centre in Kaduna, marks a strategic expansion of the nation’s airpower capabilities. The ceremony served as the formal induction of the new airmen and airwomen into the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, transitioning them from civilian life after six months of intensive physical and mental conditioning.
Reviewing the parade, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the graduation as a “defining milestone” for the Service. He emphasized that the NAF’s ability to protect Nigerian airspace is fundamentally tied to the quality and discipline of its personnel. Air Marshal Aneke noted that the successful completion of the course aligns with his core Command Philosophy of building a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force. This force, he stated, is designed to deliver decisive airpower effects in close coordination with surface forces to achieve national security goals.
The CAS lauded the Military Training Centre as the “cradle of excellence,” noting its role in fostering the standardized training necessary for modern warfare. He specifically commended the Commandant and instructors for their role in translating rigorous discipline into field-ready professionalism. Air Marshal Aneke told the graduates that the demanding nature of the training was intentional, designed specifically to prepare them for the complex realities of military service in an era of asymmetric threats.
The new personnel enter the Service at a critical juncture, and the CAS reminded the graduates that they will be immediately deployed to support ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. He highlighted that the NAF’s role is evolving, requiring airmen who can adapt to complex security threats including banditry and terrorism, operate increasingly sophisticated aerial platforms, and work seamlessly with sister services to secure the country.
The event featured a display of precision drills and the presentation of awards to recruits who distinguished themselves during the course, with the C-130 Squadron emerging as the Champion Squadron. Air Marshal Aneke concluded by expressing his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his sustained investment in the NAF’s welfare and equipment. He also thanked the Kaduna State Government, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, and the families of the recruits for their support. The ceremony was attended by a high-profile audience, including senior military leaders, traditional rulers, and government officials, signaling a unified front in the nation’s ongoing security efforts.
