PSC Approves Promotion of One DIG, Seven AIGs, 13 CPs, 30 DCPs, and 724 Other Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of a large number of senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force following written examinations and oral interviews conducted on December 17, 2025, at its headquarters in Abuja.

The promotion exercise was presided over by the Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Salihu Argungu. A total of 775 officers benefitted from the exercise across various ranks.

Among those promoted is Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Usman Gumel, who was elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police. Prior to his promotion, he served as the AIG in charge of the Community Policing Project Department at the Force Headquarters.

In addition, seven Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police. They include CP Ihebom Chukwuma of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, CP Maxwell Olatokunbo of the K9 Unit, and CP Abaniwonda Olufemi of Delta State Command.

The Commission also approved the promotion of 13 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of Commissioner of Police. Those promoted include DCP Babalola Ayodeji Johnson, DCP Ali Umar Fage, DCP Cyril Uche Obiozo, and DCP Tabitha Bako.

Furthermore, 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police were promoted to Deputy Commissioners of Police, among them ACP Muhammad Nuhu Diggi of Dala, Kano, ACP Udu Moses Ogechi of Gombe, and ACP Afolaogun Toyin of Abeokuta.

At the middle and junior senior levels, 51 Chief Superintendents of Police were promoted to Assistant Commissioners of Police, 542 Superintendents of Police were elevated to Chief Superintendents, 119 Deputy Superintendents were promoted to Superintendents, while 12 Assistant Superintendents of Police advanced to the rank of Deputy Superintendent.
