Ebonyi Assistant Commissioner of Police Slumps at Meeting, Passes Away

An Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, has died in Ebonyi State after collapsing during an official meeting at the state police headquarters in Abakaliki.

A police source disclosed that the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Tuesday while the senior officer was attending a management meeting. Until his death, Popoola was the officer in charge of the State Intelligence Department.

According to the source, the ACP suddenly developed breathing difficulties during the meeting and began gasping for air.

He was immediately rushed to the Police Medical Centre at the command headquarters in Abakaliki, where medical personnel attended to him.

Despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was later confirmed dead by doctors. Preliminary medical findings indicated that the cause of death was cardiac arrest related to hypertensive heart disease.

It was further gathered that his remains have been deposited at the morgue of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

Confirming the incident, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said the officer collapsed during the meeting and was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. He added that Popoola was not sick prior to the incident and described him as a dedicated officer who served the Nigeria Police Force with commitment and professionalism.
