The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has called for the strengthening of data governance systems across government agencies and sectors to ensure that data remains accurate, complete, reliable, and up to date.
Dr. Odumosu made this call while delivering a paper titled “Navigating the Future: Harnessing Information and Strategy for Sustainable Growth” at the 9th Annual National Strategic Conference, Honorary Doctorate Degree and Award Ceremony of the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management (CIISM), held in partnership with American Discovery University, Missouri, USA. The event took place at the Army Resource Centre, Abuja.
According to the FCT Commandant, sustainable growth can only be achieved through deliberate investment in strategic literacy for leaders and practitioners, the development of innovation ecosystems that connect government, academia, and industry, and the promotion of citizen engagement through transparent and open access to information.
He emphasized that real-time intelligence plays a critical role in threat prevention, faster response times, improved community awareness, stronger early warning systems, effective strategic planning, and the optimal deployment of resources.
Dr. Odumosu further explained that the FCT Command has adopted a forward-looking model focused on modernizing operational management, enhancing strategic foresight, and strengthening inter-agency collaboration.
He stressed that information is only valuable when it informs sound strategy, just as strategy is only effective when it is built on reliable information. He added that human capital remains the cornerstone of sustainable growth.
The Commandant commended CIISM for consistently providing platforms where ideas, knowledge, and innovation converge to shape the future of governance, security, and national development.
“We live in an era defined by rapid technological change, shifting economic landscapes, and complex security dynamics. The institutions that will survive—and indeed lead—are those that recognize the central role of information and strategy in driving sustainable growth,” he said.
He concluded by noting that sustainable growth is no longer a passive ideal but a strategic necessity, calling on stakeholders to commit to building institutions that think intelligently, act strategically, and grow sustainably for the benefit of all Nigerians and future generations.
