A retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Wilson Inalegwu, has left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s security landscape through a career spanning over three decades, earning him a reputation as one of the nation’s foremost security experts. Renowned for his strategic acumen and operational expertise, Inalegwu has played a pivotal role in shaping national security policies, enhancing crime prevention strategies, and leading critical counter-terrorism initiatives across Nigeria. His contributions extend beyond national borders, establishing him as a respected figure in the international policing and security community.

Throughout his illustrious career, AIG Wilson Inalegwu served in multiple high-profile positions within the Nigerian Police Force, including Assistant Inspector General of Police, Director of the Central Planning and Training Unit (CPTU), and Commissioner of Police. His exceptional leadership skills were also recognised internationally, where he held significant roles at the United Nations, including Chief of Operations at UN Police Headquarters (UNPOL), Team Leader at UNPOL and UNAMSIL Headquarters, and Station Commander at UNCIVPOL stations. In these capacities, he oversaw complex peacekeeping and security operations, earning accolades for his professionalism and effective coordination of multinational security teams.

Inalegwu’s impact on national security is reflected in his pioneering work in local security management and crime control. He has been instrumental in designing and implementing policies that enhanced operational efficiency, intelligence gathering, and rapid response mechanisms within the Nigerian Police Force. He was also named the Most Outstanding Security Operations Officer in West Africa in 2014 and received the Inspector-General of Police’s Commendation in 2012, among numerous other awards, underscoring his exceptional service to the nation and the wider region.
