The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the release of the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo, who was kidnapped by gunmen on October 31, 2025, in Bagudo Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, announced that the lawmaker regained his freedom around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, after being held captive for more than a week.
Abubakar stated that Bagudo has since been reunited with his family after receiving medical care. He added that the Commissioner of Police, Kotarkoshi, commended the combined security team for their professionalism and bravery throughout the rescue operation.
“The command appreciates the courage and resilience of all security personnel involved, as well as the cooperation of the good people of Kebbi State whose timely information contributed to the safe return of the Honourable Member,” the statement read.
The police reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations against banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes in the state. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies for prompt action.
Bagudo’s abduction had sparked widespread anxiety across the state, but his release has brought relief to his family, colleagues, and constituents.
