In a proactive measure to ensure a peaceful Governorship Election in Anambra State on Saturday, 8 November, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni, OFR, has deployed over 10,000 operatives, including Tactical Forces from the Corps’ National Headquarters.
Addressing State Commandants and Heads of Tactical Squads, CG Audi emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Nigeria Police, the lead agency for election security. He stated that effective coordination, cooperation, and collaboration among security agencies is critical to ensuring violence-free elections.
He further cautioned politicians against making provocative statements or taking actions that could incite violence before, during, or after the election.
All intelligence and undercover personnel have been instructed to deploy immediately to identified flashpoints. Tactical forces are conducting round-the-clock patrols, while operatives posted to polling units and collation centers are to adhere strictly to posting orders.
Following the resolution of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), the NSCDC, alongside other security agencies on election duty, will monitor the electoral process and provide adequate protection for election materials and officials. Operatives have been directed to perform their duties professionally and respect the fundamental human rights of citizens.
The Commandant General disclosed that the 10,250 operatives deployed for the election were drawn from the National Headquarters Tactical Squad, Zone 13 in Awka, and from Anambra, Edo, Kogi, Imo, Abia, Delta, Rivers, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Bayelsa States. He reassured the public of a safe and orderly election.
