The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has commenced a comprehensive nationwide audit of public and private buildings to ensure full compliance with fire safety regulations and enhance preparedness for emergencies.
The exercise, which began today in Abuja, is being conducted by the Task Force on Public and Private Building Audit. The Task Force was inaugurated by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, on 14th October 2025.
The initiative follows the recent Afri Tower fire incident, prompting the Controller General to establish the Task Force as part of broader efforts to strengthen safety enforcement and reduce the risk of future fire outbreaks.
Speaking on the development, CGF Adeyemi emphasized that the audit underscores the Service’s steadfast commitment to prevention, preparedness, and enforcement of compliance under the National Fire Safety Code. He noted that safety awareness and strict adherence to established regulations remain the most effective means of safeguarding lives and property nationwide.
The nationwide exercise will be carried out across all Federal Fire Service State Commands to ensure that every structure—public or private—meets approved safety standards.
The Federal Fire Service therefore urges property owners, managers, and occupants to cooperate fully with the Task Force to guarantee an efficient and transparent audit process.
CGF Adeyemi further stressed that fire safety is a collective responsibility, clarifying that the audit is not punitive but aimed at fostering a safer and more resilient environment for all.
