The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects for alleged involvement in drug trafficking and distribution across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan, in Dutse.
According to Lawan, the suspects were apprehended on October 18 during coordinated, intelligence-led raids carried out in Garki, Fagam, and Maigatari Local Government Areas of the state. He explained that the suspects, whose names were withheld, had long been on the police wanted list for their alleged roles in the circulation of illicit drugs within Jigawa and neighbouring states.
During the operation, police operatives seized a total of 23,944 illicit drug items, marking one of the largest anti-drug recoveries in recent times. Lawan noted that two of the arrested suspects are from Kano State and Niger Republic.
He stated that the successful raid reflects the command’s renewed determination to rid Jigawa communities of harmful substances that continue to endanger lives, particularly among the youth. He added that the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
“The Jigawa State Police Command remains unwavering in its mission to protect lives, maintain order, and curb the spread of illicit drugs through proactive and intelligence-driven policing,” Lawan affirmed.
The police spokesman recalled that earlier in the month, the command arrested over 100 suspects during similar raids across the state, reinforcing its ongoing war against drug trafficking and related crimes.
