Federal Fire Service Partners Nigeria Customs Service on Fire Safety and Prevention Training

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), through its Inspectorate, Investigation and Enforcement (IIE) Department, has launched a two-day intensive capacity-building programme for officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). The training, which commenced today, Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the FFS Headquarters in Abuja, is aimed at equipping customs personnel with essential knowledge and hands-on skills in fire safety, prevention, and emergency management.

The programme features technical sessions on fire risk identification, prevention strategies, proper use of fire extinguishers, and emergency evacuation procedures.

Leading the Federal Fire Service delegation, Assistant Controller General (Fire) B.T. Mohamed, Head of the IIE Department, conducted practical demonstrations on the different types and applications of fire extinguishers and shared expert insights on workplace fire safety standards.

The event was graced by senior customs officials, including Deputy Comptroller General of Customs, D. Nnadi, and other top-ranking officers, who commended the FFS for its proactive approach to inter-agency collaboration.

Members of the FFS delegation included SF Israel, SF Toyosi, and other personnel of the IIE Department. They reiterated the Service’s commitment to strengthening institutional safety capacity and fostering partnerships with sister agencies for a safer work environment.

Participants also engaged in interactive discussions with FFS experts, exchanging ideas on best practices for enhancing fire prevention frameworks within the Customs Service.

The practical session, scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, will expose customs officers to real-life fire simulation exercises to consolidate the knowledge gained during the training.

This initiative underscores the Federal Fire Service’s unwavering commitment to promoting fire safety awareness across government institutions, ensuring the protection of personnel, infrastructure, and national assets from fire hazards.
