In a successful operation, troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have apprehended two notorious terrorists in Taraba State. The Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Oni Olubodunde, announced that the arrests were made following a fierce shootout on July 11, 2024. The confrontation took place at Geshi Village along Rafin Kada Road in Damisa Ward of Donga Local Government Area. The operation led to the recovery of two motorcycles used by the criminals. Olubodunde stated, “The operation, conducted by troops deployed in Akate in Donga Local Government Area, was initiated following intelligence reports of an imminent attack on Geshi Village by armed terrorists.” Acting on this intelligence, troops swiftly mobilized to the area and engaged the terrorists in a gun battle. The superior firepower of the Nigerian Army ultimately overpowered the terrorists, forcing them to flee into the bush with gunshot injuries. The troops pursued the fleeing criminals, capturing two terrorists along with their motorcycles. The captured terrorists are currently in custody for interrogation. Brigade Commander Brigadier Kingsley Uwa commended the troops for their bravery and swift response. “This operation is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our troops to ensure the state is free of kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities,” he said, urging the troops to sustain their efforts to rid Taraba State of undesirable elements. In a related development, during a routine patrol within the Jalingo metropolis, troops of Headquarters 6 Brigade found a 9-year-old girl named Dorothy Kwatsumen wandering in her school uniform in the Gongomaliki area of Yorro Council. Despite efforts to identify her school and locate her parents, initial inquiries proved fruitless. The girl, who identified herself as a pupil of Glory Children Academy, was taken to the Brigade headquarters for custody. As of the time of this report, she has been successfully reunited with her family. The Brigade continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help maintain security in the region. |
