The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested twelve suspected armed robbers in connection with the killing of Arise News anchor and producer, Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, during a robbery attack in Abuja.
The arrests were made following a coordinated operation by the Scorpion Squad under the FCT Command, led by ACP Victor Godfrey, acting on digital intelligence supplied by Giga Forensics, a subsidiary of EIB STRATOC.
According to reports, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, had ordered a full-scale manhunt for the suspects after the September 29, 2025, attack at Unique Apartment in Gishiri Village, Katampe District, which occurred around 3:30 a.m.
Following the intelligence trail, operatives apprehended the suspects identified as Shamsudeen Hassan, Hassan Isah, Abubakar Alkamu (alias Abba), Sani Sirajo (alias Dan Borume), Mashkur Jamilu, Suleiman Badamasi (alias Dan-Sule), Abdul Salam Saleh, Zaharadeen Muhammad, Musa Adamu, Sumayya Mohammed, Isah Abdulrahman, and Musa Umar.
Police disclosed that four of the suspects were initially tracked and arrested through mobile phones stolen from the apartment during the attack.
During interrogation, Hassan reportedly admitted to shooting the security guard, while Sirajo claimed he tried to stop Maduagwu from falling off the building during the chaos.
Recovered items include a fabricated AK-47 rifle, 36 rounds of live ammunition, a locally made pistol, a pump-action gun, two cartridges, four mobile phones belonging to the victims, knives, a cutlass, and nine torchlights.
The remaining members of the gang were later intercepted on Wednesday while allegedly heading to carry out another robbery operation in Maitama, Abuja.
The suspects have confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing.
Maduagwu, a respected news anchor and producer with Arise News, tragically lost her life during the robbery. Police reports later confirmed that she fell from the third floor of her apartment while attempting to escape from the armed attackers, contrary to initial claims that she was shot.
Security guard Barnabas Danlami was also killed during the attack as he tried to protect residents of the building.
The FCT Police Command has assured the public that all suspects will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation, as efforts continue to apprehend any remaining accomplices.
