The Nigerian Army has deployed a full brigade, supported by heavy military equipment, across key areas of Kwara South Senatorial District in a renewed effort to tackle insecurity in the state.
Troops have begun intensive operations in communities around Oke Ode and Babanla, both in Ifelodun Local Government Area, as well as in parts of Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas. The military is combing dense forest areas believed to be hideouts for kidnappers who have carried out repeated attacks and abductions in recent months.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who met with President Bola Tinubu over the security situation during the weekend in Jos, commended the President, the military hierarchy, and allied security agencies for their swift intervention and renewed commitment to restoring peace across the state.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Wednesday, the Governor pledged continued government support for all security agencies involved in the operation.
He said the government will spare no resources in supporting the military, DSS, police, and other security agencies as they work to secure the lives and properties of the people of Kwara.
He expressed confidence that the operation, codenamed Operation Fasan Yanma, will effectively neutralize all threats in the affected areas of Kwara South and Kwara North.
He further stated that the state appreciates the efforts of President Tinubu and all security agencies for their tireless work so far, emphasizing the need to intensify actions to safeguard lives and property. The Governor expressed optimism that the brigade under Brigadier General A.A. Babatunde will succeed in this crucial mission.
The Governor also appreciated the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Army Staff, the General Officer Commanding 2nd Division, and other top military officers for their continued collaboration and support in ensuring lasting peace and security in Kwara State.
