Troops, Police Rescue Six Kidnap Victims in Taraba

Operatives of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, in a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force, have rescued six kidnap victims, including a child, in Taraba State.

The Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

According to him, the kidnappers had waylaid a Toyota Carina II vehicle traveling from Katsina-Ala in Benue State and abducted its occupants after forcing the car to stop near an abandoned checkpoint.

“Acting on a timely tip-off, troops of the 6 Brigade, in collaboration with the Police, swiftly mobilized and combed the general area. Their prompt action led to the successful rescue of six persons, including the driver and five passengers,” Mohammed stated.

The Army spokesperson identified the rescued victims as Mr. Terna Gbaya (43), Mr. Musa Adamu (55), Mrs. Rose Sor (35), Mrs. Lydia Vyiashima (40), Mrs. Comfort Iyofar (60), and a baby.

He confirmed that all the victims have since been reunited with their families.

Mohammed added that search and rescue operations are still ongoing to apprehend the kidnappers and free any other victims who might still be held captive.

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops and the Police for their swift coordination and professional response that led to the successful operation.

He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Taraba State, stressing that the Army will continue to collaborate with other security agencies to rid the state of criminal elements.
