The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gombe State Command, Commandant Jibrin Idris, has carried out an assessment visit to the Dadin Kowa Dam, a vital National Asset located in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State. The visit followed directives aimed at strengthening the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI).
On arrival, Commandant Idris was received by Engr. Kabir Adam, Chief Technical Officer of Mabon Ltd, operators of the hydro power plant. He was also briefed on the dam’s security challenges and needs. The Commandant later embarked on a guided tour of the hydro power plant and surrounding facilities, where he received further security briefings from Mr. Peter Balami, Chief Security Officer of Mabon Ltd; Ibrahim Sadiq, Dam Manager; and Isa Mohammed, Administrative Manager of the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority (UBRDA) at Dadin Kowa.
During the inspection, Commandant Idris underscored the need to safeguard critical assets against vandalism and scavenging, noting their damaging effects on national infrastructure.
As part of the engagement, he also paid a courtesy and advocacy visit to the Emir of Yamaltu, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, at his palace. While addressing the monarch, the Commandant highlighted the role of traditional institutions in supporting security agencies to protect public and private assets. He urged the Emir to help sensitize his subjects on the dangers of vandalism and the importance of community involvement in asset protection.
The Commandant was accompanied on the tour by DCC Saviour Ibe, Head of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI); SC Bala Yari, Divisional Officer, Yamaltu; DSC Alice Pisaghi, Divisional Officer, Deba; and DSC Mohammed Isa, Head of the Anti-Vandal Unit.
