The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, in partnership with the Nigerian Army Headquarters Garrison, on Monday graduated 174 officers from a one-week intensive training programme aimed at enhancing their capacity to deploy modern security tools.
The passing-out ceremony, themed “Enhancing Tactical Efficiency Through Modern Security Tools”, was held at the NYSC camp in Abuja and attended by senior security officials, facilitators, and participants.
In his remarks, the Commandant of the NSCDC FCT Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, described the training as timely, noting that the complexity of Nigeria’s security challenges required innovation and the use of modern techniques.
“The threats we face today are more sophisticated than ever, requiring not only courage and commitment but also the effective deployment of modern tools, knowledge, and techniques,” Odumosu said.
He commended the Nigerian Army Headquarters Garrison for its partnership and quality instruction, stressing that the training would strengthen surveillance capacity, improve response times, and enhance protection of critical infrastructure across the FCT.
“This collaboration demonstrates the essence of inter-agency synergy and cooperation, which remain essential in our collective pursuit of national security objectives,” he added.
Odumosu also warned vandals and criminal elements against acts of sabotage, particularly the destruction of public infrastructure such as streetlights, manhole covers, power installations, and communication facilities. He assured that the newly acquired skills would be used to curb vandalism and strengthen public confidence in NSCDC operations.
He praised the Commandant General of NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, for his consistent support in prioritizing personnel training and capacity development.
Earlier, in his welcome address, ACC John Stephen, Unit Commander of the NSCDC Armed Squad in the FCT, said the programme was “impactful and carefully designed” to sharpen the tactical skills of officers. He noted that participants were trained in radio communication, map reading, navigation, security symbols, and drone operations.
“Together with the Army Garrison, we successfully trained 174 participants who now stand better prepared to discharge their duties. Like Oliver Twist, we humbly request your continued robust support to accommodate those who could not participate in this first batch,” Stephen appealed.
In his goodwill message, the Commander of the Army Headquarters Garrison, Maj. Gen. Wunakhe Dangana, represented by Brig. Gen. Orok Ndareke, urged the officers to put their knowledge to practical use. “The value of this training lies not in its completion but in its application in the field,” he emphasized.
One of the graduating officers, Emmanuel Aloko, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude to the NSCDC FCT Commandant and the Nigerian Army for the training.
The event featured the presentation of awards to outstanding personnel and facilitators, including Maj. Gen. Dangana, Brig. Gen. Ndareke, Chief Instructor Capt. Lucky Timi Tapre, Sgt. O.O., and the Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Road Safety Matters.
Odumosu charged the officers to serve as ambassadors of the Corps and multipliers of knowledge, stating: “This ceremony does not mark the end of your journey but rather the beginning of greater responsibility.”
