Encomiums, As Leadership Changes Hands at Apapa Customs Command

It was all praises, Monday at the Apapa ports Customs command when the barely eighteen months leadership tenure of Assistant Controller General of Customs (ACG) Babatunde Olomu, came to an end yeilding ways to the glorious entrant of Controller EOB Oshoba, as the next Customs Area Controller (CAC).

Olomu, who was then Comptroller of Customs, assumed office, precisely in May 6, 2024, and evidently raised the bar in vitually all aspects of Customs operations at the flagship Command of the Nigeria Customs Service.

In 2024, ACG Olomu stunned stakeholders as well as the entire Customs high command when he announced an unprecedented revenue generation of over two trillion naira, a feat he attributed to the dexterity of his entire officers and men in cahoot with other critical stakeholders at the Apapa ports Customs command.

Thus, it was no surprise when in handing over the baton of leadership to Comptroller Oshoba, September 8, 2025, Olomu once again announced with glee that the national coffers had been enriched by over N1.834 through revenue generated at the command.

Just as one wonders what magic may have brought this laudable achievements to bear even as the year is only beginning its last quater, ACG Olomu is quick to attribute this to an improved system of cargo clearance at the port which is now faster more efficient, and user-friendly, as attested to by the cream of clearing agents who gathered at at his office to bid him bye.

Beyond revenue generation, it is also on record that Olomu opened a new vista of effective fight against smuggling, stakeholders engagement, information sharing, as well as feedback mechanisms from stakeholders.

ACG Olomu is full of gratitude to the Controller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, “stakeholders , Police, NDLEA, DSS for their unwavering support in the last 15 months” of his tenure as the Apapa ports Customs command boss.

Stakolders present at the handing over ceremony also took turns to extol the virtues of ACG Babatunde Olomu . They described him as a success story and dedicated officer who raised the bar in revenue generation

In his speech, the new CAC, Comptroller Oshoba, pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him by the CGC, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, in posting him to the command.

While assuring the stakeholders of his determination to
build on the foundation laid by his predecessor,
Controller Oshoba called for the collaboration of critical stakeholders to tackle the challenges of the new assignment and ensure his success in office.

Notable stakeholders wo witnessed the handover ceremony included, terminal operators, top members of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Chairman Customs Consultative Forum, Akeem Olanrewaju, amongst others.
