On September 5, 2025, a prolonged three-hour gun battle ensued when a gang of armed kidnappers launched a brutal attack on operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) attached to BUA Cement Company, Okpella, in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
It is important to provide the public with an accurate account of the incident.
The operatives were deployed to provide security coverage for Chinese expatriates working at the company. Unfortunately, during a routine patrol, the convoy carrying both NSCDC operatives and the Chinese expatriates was ambushed, resulting in the death of eight personnel, serious injuries to four others, one expatriate missing, and four expatriates rescued and safely recovered.
The Corps reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure and strongly condemns this heinous attack.
The Commandant General of NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has directed the Edo State Commandant and management staff to convey condolences to the families of the fallen operatives and to arrange for their burial with full honors.
Professor Audi commended the bravery, dedication, and patriotism displayed by the operatives, affirming that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
He further assured that the medical expenses of those currently receiving intensive care will be fully covered, and they will be provided with adequate treatment for a speedy recovery.
The Commandant General also expressed appreciation to the relevant security agencies collaborating with the NSCDC to thoroughly search the forest areas where the kidnappers fled, with the aim of rescuing the abducted expatriate and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The Corps categorically urges the public to disregard any embellished or inaccurate reports circulating about the incident. The Commandant General remains fully committed to the welfare, safety, and care of all officers and men, affirming that this attack will not deter the Corps from fulfilling its statutory duty to protect critical national assets and infrastructure.
