The Plateau State Government has renewed its call for the creation of state police as part of efforts to address the unique security challenges confronting the state.
Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, restated the demand during a live programme on Dr Fish FM, Jos, stressing that Governor Caleb Mutfwang remains consistent in advocating state policing as a complementary solution to federally controlled security agencies.
Ramnap explained that while the state continues to collaborate with federal security formations, a state policing system would bring law enforcement closer to the grassroots, making responses to local threats more effective.
She noted that Plateau’s security realities demand tailored approaches, particularly to ensure peace and safety in rural communities vulnerable to attacks.
The Commissioner assured that the government is committed to strengthening security through personnel deployment, improved community vigilance, and ongoing engagement with stakeholders.
She urged residents to support ongoing reforms and cooperate with security agencies to consolidate peace and stability across the state.
