The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has reiterated the Corps’ unwavering commitment to the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, in line with its statutory mandate.
This assurance followed a swift deployment of a Tactical Team of gallant officers to the site of a train derailment involving a Kaduna-bound passenger train carrying 618 passengers. The incident occurred at Kilometer 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations along the Abuja-Kaduna Rail Corridor.
Professor Audi emphasized that the Corps remains fully dedicated to ensuring the safety of national infrastructure and the protection of civilians, particularly during emergencies and disaster situations. He stressed the importance of rapid response in mitigating the risks associated with such incidents.
Accompanied by key security stakeholders, the NSCDC Commandant General conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the derailment site. He called for the implementation of effective measures to prevent future occurrences and to enhance the safety of the rail corridor.
Professor Audi also commended the steadfastness and prompt response of the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, highlighting the synergy between security agencies and infrastructure managers. He further warned that anyone found sabotaging railway installations would be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.
The NSCDC’s timely intervention in the rescue operation not only underscores its operational readiness but also its strategic role in national disaster management and asset protection.
