Police arrest three suspected armed robbers in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has arrested the suspected armed robbery syndicate terrorising the people of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of the state.

In a release by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, on Saturday, the operatives made the arrest on July 1, while some gang members remained at large.

The police spokesperson, who mentioned the suspects as including John Okon Anta ‘M’, Michael Osudua ‘M’ and Inyene Joseph Edet ‘M’ said they allegedly attacked the victim and robbed him of his Qlink motorcycle, phones, power bank and charger at gunpoint.

She said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had earlier robbed two houses at Afaha Ikot Abasi and carted away cell phones and other valuable items.

While noting that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the gang; John said the suspects have confessed to the crime and would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

She added, “The command has arrested three armed robbery syndicate in Ikot Abasi village. One locally-made pistol was recovered from them.

“The Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State Police Command, CP Waheed Ayilara, has reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminal elements and make Akwa Ibom safe for all.

“The CP, while appreciating members of the public for their continuous support to the command, urged anyone with valuable information that will lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects to call the command’s emergency lines 090400000065, 08020913810 or report to the nearest police station.”
