In a decisive move against rising cybercrime, troops from the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 1 of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), have arrested 183 suspected internet fraudsters in Warri, Delta State.
The raid, which took place on July 19, was based on actionable intelligence and targeted multiple buildings in Warri reportedly used as a training center for online fraud. The operation and its outcome were disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Asaba by the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Captain Iliyasu Bawa.
According to the statement, all 183 suspects males aged between 16 and 29 were apprehended during the coordinated raid. The soldiers recovered 274 laptops, 87 mobile phones, nine laptop chargers, one table phone, and two WiFi devices. The seized items are believed to have been used for various forms of cybercriminal activity.
Capt. Bawa confirmed that the suspects are currently undergoing preliminary investigation, with further actions to be taken based on the findings.
