Army Seizes Over 1,000 Rounds of Ammunition, Arrests Suspects in Nationwide Operations

In a renewed nationwide crackdown on terrorism, banditry, and organized crime, the Nigerian Army has recorded a series of tactical successes between June 25 and 26, 2025, resulting in the recovery of large arms caches, critical supplies, and the arrest of several suspects.

According to official updates posted on the Army’s social media platforms, the coordinated operations spanned several states across the country, targeting terrorist enclaves, bandit routes, and criminal networks.

In Borno State, troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion, while conducting a perimeter patrol around Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area, uncovered a known ISWAP/JAS withdrawal corridor. During the operation, they recovered 408 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, 1,200 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two 40mm rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). Concurrently, in Bama LGA, troops from the 21 Special Armoured Brigade launched a successful raid that led to the elimination of three terrorists. The soldiers also seized a Dane gun and demolished several makeshift structures used by insurgents for shelter and storage.

Elsewhere in Monguno, Borno State, vigilant troops intercepted a suspicious vehicle believed to be ferrying supplies to terrorists. One suspect was apprehended, and the seized items included 65 litres of petrol, bags of rice and groundnuts, NPK fertilizers, yam tubers, motorcycle headlights, solar panels and lamps, 2,000 empty cement bags, and a mobile phone.

In Kaduna State, troops of the 2 Battalion on escort duty in Birnin Gwari came under attack from armed assailants riding motorcycles. Following a brief pursuit and engagement, the soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

In Zamfara, troops of the 1 Brigade carried out a counterattack in Maru Local Government Area, successfully neutralizing a notorious terrorist leader identified as Mai Dada. Meanwhile, in Edo State, a suspect was arrested in Etsako Central LGA with a pump-action shotgun and several cutlasses.

Further south, in Plateau State, troops operating under the Joint Task Force, Operation SAFE HAVEN, raided criminal hideouts in the mountainous terrain of Tangur, Kwakas, Horop, Tulus, Jinak, and Hokk communities within Bokkos LGA. Aided by drone surveillance, the troops recovered a Dane gun abandoned by fleeing criminals who escaped upon sighting the advancing soldiers.

In Benue State, the North Central theatre witnessed swift action by troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE stationed in Jooter/Kyado. Acting on credible intelligence about kidnappers operating along the Peykia–Wukari Road in Ukum LGA, the troops launched an offensive that led to the rescue of five abducted passengers. The kidnappers fled into nearby bushes, abandoning the victims and a vehicle at the scene.

Also, in the South-South region, troops of the 5 Battalion deployed in Otueke, Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State, arrested two individuals in possession of two locally fabricated pistols and a single 9mm round.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to eradicating criminality and sustaining peace and order across the federation, affirming that its forces remain vigilant, prepared, and dedicated to safeguarding national security.
