Nigerian Army Rescues Five Kidnap Victims, Neutralizes Suspects, Recovers Weapons Across Four Regions

Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded significant operational successes in multiple regions of the country, rescuing five kidnapped victims, arresting four suspects, and neutralizing five others during a series of coordinated missions conducted between June 25 and 26, 2025.

The Army confirmed in a post on its official X handle that these operations were carried out across the North East, North West, North Central, and South South zones.

Eight separate missions were executed, resulting in the recovery of a large cache of arms and logistics. Items recovered include 408 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, 1,200 rounds of 7.62mm, two 40mm RPG bombs, one AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds, two Dane guns, one pump-action gun, and two locally fabricated pistols with one round of 9mm ammunition.

Troops also seized a variety of logistics materials, including 65 litres of premium motor spirit (PMS), four bags of rice, five bags of groundnuts, four bags of NPK fertilizer, tubers of yam, motorcycle headlights, solar lights, empty cement bags, solar panels, a mobile phone, and a recovered vehicle.

In Benue State, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE stationed at Jooter/Kyado in Ukum Local Government Area responded to credible intelligence on kidnapping activities along the Peykia–Wukari road. During a firefight with the criminals, the suspects fled, leaving behind five kidnapped passengers who were safely rescued. A vehicle used by the kidnappers was also recovered.

Meanwhile, in Plateau State, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN conducted an offensive in the Bokkos Local Government Area, targeting Tangur, Kwakas, Horop, Tulus, Jinak, and Hokk villages. With support from a UAV drone, troops navigated the challenging terrain and recovered a Dane gun abandoned by criminals who escaped on sighting the soldiers.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating criminal elements threatening the peace and security of the country.

In Edo State, troops arrested one criminal suspect in Etsako Central LGA and recovered a pump-action gun and cutlasses during a targeted operation.

In Zamfara State, troops of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army “neutralised a notorious terrorist kingpin identified as Mai Dada during a counterattack in Maru LGA”.

In Kaduna State, troops of the 2 Battalion on escort duty along the Birnin Gwari axis engaged fleeing armed men on a motorcycle.

Following the engagement, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

In Borno State, troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion on a perimeter patrol in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA recovered 408 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, 1,200 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two 40mm RPG bombs along a known ISWAP/JAS withdrawal route.

Also in Borno, troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade conducted a raid in Bama LGA, “neutralising three terrorists, recovering a Dane gun, and destroying terrorist life support structures”.

In a separate operation in Monguno, Borno State, troops intercepted a vehicle suspected to be conveying logistics supplies for terrorists.

“One suspect was arrested, and troops recovered.

In the South South, troops of 5 Battalion deployed at Otueke in Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State arrested two suspects found with two locally fabricated pistols and one round of 9mm ammunition.

The Army further pledged its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and maintaining peace across the country.
