The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has once again demonstrated the impact of intentional leadership and strategic synergy in national security, as one of the Corps’ frontline officers, Commander John Onoja Attah, was honoured with the Security Heroism Award at the 2025 Silent Heroes Awards in Abuja.

Known for his firm belief that “no security agency can function effectively in isolation,” Commandant General Audi has consistently advocated for a harmonized approach to tackling security challenges in Nigeria. His deliberate restructuring of the NSCDC’s operational strategy — particularly in the protection of critical national assets and the fight against illegal mining — is now bearing tangible fruit.
ACC Attah, who currently leads the NSCDC Mining Marshals, attributed his recognition to the Commandant General’s far-reaching reforms and renewed energy within the Corps.
“This recognition is not just personal,” Attah said after receiving the award. “It is symbolic of the transformation within the NSCDC under the visionary leadership of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi. I dedicate this award to him for designing a security architecture that is not just theoretical, but one that is actively disrupting economic sabotage across Nigeria’s mineral corridors.”
Attah also extended appreciation to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Dele Alake, for their policy direction and political will, which he described as “crucial enablers” of recent operational successes.
Reaffirming the Commandant General’s philosophy, Attah emphasized the need for intelligence sharing, mutual respect, and collaboration across the entire national security landscape.
“The fight against illegal mining and other forms of economic sabotage cannot be fought in silos,” he said. “Our strength lies in synergy — among agencies, ministries, and local communities. The Commandant General has shown this through action, and the results are now evident.”
Held in Abuja, the Silent Heroes Awards celebrates Nigerians who work behind the scenes to uphold national values, often without public recognition. ACC Attah was among a select group honoured for integrity, sacrifice, and consistency in national service.
