The Head of the Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called for a comprehensive and reliable profiling of mining field workers in order to stem the tide of criminality and illegal mining in the nation’s mining sector, describing such a step as a major recipe for effective security measures.
Speaking in Jos, the Plateau State capital, last weekend, Commandant Musa disclosed that all efforts should be intensified to achieve a comprehensive and dependable profiling system, which would go a long way in reducing insecurity not only at mining sites but across the country.
Commandant Musa said: ‘‘It is indisputable and evident that profiling mining field workers would significantly enhance security by enabling the proactive identification of potential threats and facilitating efficient and manageable security operations. Profiling will certainly enable the creation of risk profiles based on various data points, thereby helping to distinguish between legitimate workers and individuals with malicious intent.’
‘’For us to successfully implement efficient profiling, it is also important to synergize with our traditional rulers, who can attest to the character of their subjects, many of whom are likely to form a significant portion of the workforce undergoing profiling. This collaboration is vital because traditional rulers remain the closest authority to the people at the grassroots.’‘
