
… COMMEND GBOKO DIVISIONAL OFFICER FOR BEING A GOOD AMBASSADOR OF THE CORPS
History today was made in the ancient city of Gboko, Benue State as the Benue State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps led by Commandant of Corps BITRUS ALICE LARAI in company of several medical practitioners in different fields of medicine conducted what many has described as unique and first of its kind in Benue State.
The medical outreach coordinated by the State Command and powered by the Corps’ Divisional Officer in Gboko anticipated a target population of one thousand five hundred health seekers across diverse health needs.
State Commandant CC LA BITRUS who was visibly elated at the level of collaboration and coordination of all stakeholders and partners, Commended the Local Government Chairman Hon Torseer Elias Esq, represented by the Council Secretary Hon Lady Susan Akaka, the team of medical practitioners led by Dr Jerry Ukuhwa, medical Director Smiles Hospital, Gboko.
The State Commandant opined that this gesture is part of the Corps’ corporate social responsibility of giving back to the society, she restated the commitment of the NSCDC in the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructures across the State, as well as the protection of lives and property which formed the foundation of our core mandate.
On the issue of insecurity in the State, the State Commandant assured Benue residents that there shall be light at the end of the tunnel, as the Command is reviewing her operational tactics, deployment and regiging specialized squads to effectively respond more proactively to the unprovoked and senseless killings across the State.
“This medical Outreach program is designed to meet the medical and health needs of Gboko and it’s environs, this is part of our strong determination that the good people of Benue State are not only provided security but are cared for through their health and medical challenges”.
The medical team is comprised of Five Doctors, two Ophthalmologist and Optometrist, eleven Laboratory Scientists, fifteen Nurses and Three Pharmacist.
Dr Jerry Ukuhwa, described the initiative as laudable and expressed his satisfaction with the team assembled to ensure the smooth conduct of the medical outreach.
Medical care in the following areas were administered
- Eye screening test
- Sugar level test
- Blood pressure test
- Malaria test
- Typhoid test
- Ulcer test
- Paediatric care
- Minor surgical procedures
- General consultation and many more.
Divisional Officer, Gboko Division SC Kwaghgba Francis Terhile thanked the State Commandant and all partners in ensuring that this unique history was made.
