The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 4,500 personnel across Abuja and its environs in preparation for the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, who disclosed this in a statement by DSC Monica Ojobi, said the deployment is aimed at ensuring the safety of lives, protection of property, and security of critical assets during the festivity.

The operation, he said, cuts across all six Area Councils of the FCT and includes officers from specialised departments such as the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adkasu, CNAI unit, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) response team.

Strategic and vulnerable locations, including shopping malls, recreational centres, prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, the City Gate, the Three Arms Zone, and key government buildings, are all under heightened surveillance.

The deployment also covers black spots such as uncompleted buildings, often used as hideouts by criminal elements.

“In a bid to forestall emergencies and unforeseen incidents, our undercover operatives have already commenced covert operations and surveillance activities across the capital city,” Odumosu said.

The Commandant directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to take charge of security operations within their jurisdictions and ensure their presence is visible across the Area Councils.

“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of security breach. Ensure you deploy your personnel adequately and professionally,” he warned.

Odumosu emphasised the importance of inter-agency collaboration and urged officers to maintain good conduct, strictly adhere to the rules of engagement, and avoid acts of harassment, intimidation, or accidental discharge.

While reassuring residents of a safe and peaceful celebration, he called for public vigilance and cooperation.

“My personnel are ready to ensure you have a peaceful celebration, but you also have a part to play by being proactive and reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency,” he said.

He extended his wishes to the Muslim faithful in the FCT for a joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
