Since assuming office as the 16th substantive State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, on April 13, 2026, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed has demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic vision and operational excellence in strengthening security across the state. Drawing from his vast experience as a former Head of Operations in Kwara State and later Commandant in Zone 4, Minna, he has brought renewed energy, professionalism and innovation to the Command.

Under his leadership, the Kwara State Command has witnessed remarkable progress in intelligence gathering, crime prevention, infrastructure protection, community engagement and inter-agency collaboration. His administration has consistently embraced a proactive and intelligence-driven approach that has enhanced the Command’s effectiveness in addressing emerging security challenges while fostering public confidence in the Corps.

Recognising that effective security begins with timely and actionable intelligence, Commandant Mohammed has prioritised the strengthening of the Command’s intelligence architecture. His commitment to capacity building was evident in the three-day Intelligence and Investigation Training Seminar organised in August 2026. The programme, which focused on ethical intelligence sharing and operational collaboration among security agencies, equipped personnel with modern investigative skills and reinforced the culture of professionalism within the Command. This initiative further highlighted his determination to ensure that officers remain prepared to respond effectively to evolving security threats.

One of the defining features of his administration has been the renewed emphasis on the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure. Understanding the importance of safeguarding facilities that drive economic growth and public welfare, Commandant Mohammed has intensified stakeholder engagement and public sensitisation on the need to protect government infrastructure from vandalism, theft and sabotage. His leadership was instrumental in the successful hosting of a summit on the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, which brought together key stakeholders to develop sustainable strategies for securing essential public facilities across the state.

The operational achievements recorded under his watch have further demonstrated his commitment to effective service delivery. Through intelligence-led operations and enhanced surveillance activities, the Command has successfully intercepted criminal activities and protected vital national assets. Among the notable successes was the interception of a truck conveying approximately 36 tonnes of suspected lithium ore along the Jebba Expressway, leading to the arrest of three suspects. The Command also apprehended an individual found in possession of materials belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), reinforcing its resolve to combat vandalism and theft targeting critical infrastructure.

Additional operations carried out under his leadership led to the arrest of suspects involved in the vandalisation of transformers, streetlight cables and railway facilities. These successes reflect a Command that has become more responsive, proactive and effective under the guidance of Commandant Mohammed. His emphasis on intelligence, rapid response and strategic deployment of personnel has significantly strengthened the Command’s operational capacity.

Beyond enforcement activities, Commandant Mohammed has consistently promoted community-based security initiatives aimed at fostering trust and cooperation between the Corps and the public. Through the Agro Rangers programme, he has encouraged peaceful coexistence among farmers, herders and rural communities while addressing security concerns affecting agricultural productivity. This initiative has contributed to improved stakeholder engagement and strengthened information sharing between communities and security operatives.

His leadership philosophy also recognises that security extends beyond crime prevention to the protection of lives and human dignity. This commitment was demonstrated through the Command’s free medical outreach programme in Agbabiaka Community, Ilorin, where residents received healthcare services and medical support. Such interventions have further enhanced the Corps’ relationship with the public and underscored its role as a people-centred institution.

Similarly, the Gender Unit of the Command has continued to provide support and intervention in cases involving domestic violence, child abandonment, child custody disputes, abduction and sexual offences. Through professional handling of these sensitive matters, the Command has strengthened access to justice and protection for vulnerable members of society. The successful resolution of numerous cases through mediation and legal processes reflects the Command’s dedication to safeguarding the rights and welfare of citizens.

Perhaps one of Commandant Mohammed’s greatest achievements has been his ability to strengthen collaboration among security agencies, government institutions, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders. His inclusive leadership style has encouraged cooperation, improved information sharing and enhanced coordinated responses to security challenges across the state. This collaborative approach has contributed significantly to maintaining peace and stability in Kwara State.

As his tenure continues to unfold, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed is increasingly being recognised as a transformational leader whose impact extends beyond routine security operations. Through strategic planning, intelligence-driven policing, personnel development, infrastructure protection and community partnership, he has repositioned the Kwara State Command as a model of professionalism and operational excellence within the NSCDC.

His administration has established a solid foundation for sustainable security management, demonstrating that effective leadership, strong institutions and active community participation are essential ingredients for lasting peace and development.
