The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), under the leadership of Comdt. Elijah Etim Willie, PhD, played host to a ten-man delegation of top senior officers from the Retired Military and Security Forum, Nsukka Zone. The delegation was led by Major General G. Ugwuoke (Rtd) among whom were DCG Dom Asogwa (Rtd) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (focal person) and Major General Ezeugwu (rtd) among others.
In a cordial and engaging atmosphere, the visiting delegation expressed concerns about the prevailing security challenges in the Nsukka axis and, by extension, Enugu State. Major General Ugwuoke explained that following a strategic engagement with the Governor of Enugu State, one of the major outcomes was the need for the forum to liaise with relevant security agencies to promote synergy and collaboration. As such, they chose to begin this outreach with the NSCDC due to its grassroots presence and operational spread across the state.
The forum emphasized the importance of intelligence sharing and pledged to support the NSCDC through their extensive local networks and experience.
In his remarks, Comdt. Elijah Etim Willie, PhD. warmly welcomed the team and commended their proactive commitment to security despite being retired. He noted that their continued service in this capacity is a testament to their enduring patriotism and sense of responsibility. He informed of his myriad of notable achievements in the state since assumption in office in November 2024, to include the creation of 4 new Area Commands and 20 new Divisions to add to the existing ones and bring security closer to the people.
The Commandant also provided insights into the current challenges faced by the NSCDC, especially in logistics, mobility, and actionable intelligence. He called for increased advocacy to secure support from both the government and public-spirited individuals and organizations to enhance the operational capacity of the Corps.
The meeting concluded with an interactive session, mutual reaffirmation of partnership, and a group photograph to commemorate the visit.
