BORDER SECURITY: KANO STATE POLICE COMMAND CONVENES STAKEHOLDERS SECURITY MEETING IN SHANONO LGA

In response to security concerns particularly threat of kidnapping in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas that border Kaduna State, the Kano State Commissioner of Police convened a Stakeholders Security Meeting on 14th May, 2025 at Faruruwa Village in Shanono LGA. This is in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun PhD, NPM on adoption of community-oriented policing in surmounting emerging security challenges. The initiative underscores the Command’s commitment to collaborative security efforts and community-based engagements.

The meeting, which brought together traditional leaders, community members, security agencies, and Chairmen of Shanono, Bagwai, Tsanyawa, Gwarzo, Bichi Local Government Areas and other dignitaries provided a platform for stakeholders to share insights into local security dynamics and discuss strategies for enhancing safety and security in the affected areas.

The Chairman of Shanono Local Government Area, Hon. Abubakar Barau, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner of Police for convening the meeting and pledged the local government’s support for the Police in their efforts to maintain peace and security. He urged community members to provide timely information on suspicious activities, assuring that the local government would work closely with the Police to address security concerns; ditto other Local Government Chairmen.

The District Head of Shanono, Dr. Bashir I. Muhammad, in his contribution, emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in addressing security challenges. He urged community members to support the Police and other security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and stability in the area.

The Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Bichi Area Command, Alhaji Garba Bichi, in his remarks, commended the Commissioner of Police for engaging the community on security matters. He pledged the PCRC’s support for the Police and urged community members to provide information and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, reiterated the Command’s commitment in addressing security concerns in Shanono and neighboring areas, emphasizing the importance of community participation in policing efforts. He outlined ongoing and future strategies to enhance security, including increased patrols, community engagement initiatives, and intelligence-led operations.

The CP later visited the Police Girls Secondary School (PGSS), Shanono, where he assessed the security architecture of the school. This visit indicates the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of staff and students in Police institutions.

The Command recognizes the critical role community members play in enhancing security and assures stakeholders of its commitment to working closely with all parties to maintain peace and stability in Shanono LGA and Kano State at large.

The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to maintain open lines of communication, share information, and collaborate toward a safer community.
