Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has lauded the Nigerian Army for its commitment to securing the Illela–Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, a major infrastructure project under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The commendation came during a one-day operational visit to Kebbi State, where the Minister met with troops stationed at the Forward Operations Base Laager.
Speaking to the soldiers, Badaru highlighted the economic and developmental importance of the project.
“This project is a game-changer for travelers, particularly those commuting between Sokoto and Lagos.
“It will stimulate the economy by creating numerous jobs and economic opportunities,” he said.
The Defence Minister also stressed the government’s appreciation of the troops’ efforts.
“You understand the importance of this road and the critical nature of your mission.
“That is why the President has entrusted me with the responsibility of visiting you to personally express our appreciation for the exceptional work you are doing,” he told the soldiers.
According to a statement signed by Mati Ali, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Minister, the visit was part of a broader effort to assess ongoing military operations in the region and ensure the safety of critical infrastructure projects nationwide.
The Illela–Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway is expected to significantly enhance transportation and trade across Nigeria’s northwest and southwest corridors.
