NSCDC Unveils State-of-the-Art Tactical Training Ground to Boost Operational Preparedness

By Tunji Braimoh, Abuja

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commissioned a modern Tactical Training Ground at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command Headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen operational readiness, professionalism, and capacity development within the Corps.

The facility was commissioned by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, in line with his vision of transforming the Corps into a highly disciplined, professional, and operationally efficient security institution capable of effectively addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

Built to replicate real-life operational environments, the Tactical Training Ground is designed to provide officers and personnel with intensive practical exercises aimed at improving physical fitness, enhancing tactical competence, and building the resilience required to operate effectively in diverse and challenging security situations.

The project reflects the Corps’ firm belief that excellence in service delivery is rooted in continuous training and capacity building. It reinforces the principle encapsulated in the Latin maxim Nemo dat quod non habet—“No one gives what he does not have”—underscoring the fact that effective security operations can only be achieved through a well-trained and highly skilled workforce.

The initiative was championed by the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola O. Odumosu, as part of efforts to support and advance the Commandant General’s reform and transformation agenda. The facility provides a conducive environment for practical, mission-oriented training and will serve as a centre for developing the operational capabilities of personnel.

As the lead agency responsible for the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), the NSCDC plays a pivotal role in safeguarding strategic national resources and public facilities. The Corps is also mandated to support counter-terrorism operations, manage disaster response efforts, regulate private guard companies, facilitate conflict resolution, conduct Agro Rangers operations, and protect lives and property across the country.

Recognising the critical importance of preparedness in fulfilling these responsibilities, the Corps has continued to prioritize investments in training, personnel development, and operational infrastructure. The newly commissioned Tactical Training Ground is expected to significantly enhance the ability of officers and men to respond swiftly, professionally, and effectively to security threats and emergencies.

The facility will serve as a strategic platform for producing personnel who are physically fit, mentally alert, tactically proficient, and professionally equipped to meet the demands of modern security operations.

As Nigeria’s security environment continues to evolve, the NSCDC remains committed to strengthening its institutional capacity through innovative training programmes and modern facilities that empower personnel to anticipate, adapt to, and effectively neutralize emerging threats.

The commissioning of the Tactical Training Ground marks another significant milestone in the Corps’ ongoing drive to build a world-class security organization capable of delivering on its mandate while sustaining public trust and confidence in its operations.
