In a powerful show of synergy and shared purpose, the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), under the leadership of Commandant Dr. Elijah Etim Willie, PhD, played host today to the newly appointed Zonal Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mr. Ukpai Jonathan.
The atmosphere at the State Command Headquarters was one of optimism and forward-looking dialogue as Mr. Ukpai, accompanied by senior officials from his office, arrived on a courtesy visit aimed at deepening collaboration between the two agencies. In his remarks, the NAPTIP Zonal Commander described the NSCDC as a trusted ally in the fight against the scourge of human trafficking and related transnational crimes.
Drawing from past experiences in Abuja and other states, Mr. Ukpai recounted how fruitful the partnership between NAPTIP and the NSCDC has been over the years. He expressed strong hopes that Enugu would soon become a model for such inter-agency cooperation. He specifically appealed for NSCDC’s support in the areas of intelligence sharing, victim referral systems, and joint operations.
“NAPTIP cannot work in isolation,” Mr. Ukpai emphasized. “To dismantle trafficking networks and protect the vulnerable, we must lean on the strength and reach of partners like the NSCDC.”
In response, Commandant Dr. Elijah Etim Willie welcomed the proposal with enthusiasm, describing the visit as timely and strategic. He assured the visiting delegation that the NSCDC in Enugu is fully committed to fostering a seamless partnership with NAPTIP. According to him, “When agencies align their strengths, communities become safer and criminals run out of hiding places.”
He further pledged the Corps’ readiness to engage in joint field operations, share actionable intelligence, and collaborate in training and capacity-building programmes focused on human trafficking and child protection.
The interactive session was marked by rich exchanges, as both teams identified key areas for immediate action and long-term engagement. The visit ended on a high note with a symbolic group photograph, capturing the moment of unity and shared resolve to protect lives, uphold dignity, and preserve humanity.
