AIG BASIL O. IDEGWU, ASSUMES DUTY AS THE SIXTH ASSISTANT INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE, (AIG), ZONE 14, COMPRISING KADUNA AND KATSINA STATES COMMAND, ROLE OUT PLAN OF ACTION

AIG BASIL O. IDEGWU, Ph.D., has been posted to Zone 14, comprising  Kaduna and Katsina States Police Command. He has assumed duty as the Sixth Assistant Inspector-General of Police, (AIG) in charge of the Zone on Monday, 24th June, 2024. 

The new Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Zone 14 Headquarters, Katsina, is an indigene of Ute/Erumu Town, in Ika North East LGA of Delta State. 

He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons) Degree from University of Nigeria, Nsuka, (UNN), M. A. in Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Ibadan and Ph. D in Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Ibadan.   

He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force, as a member of Cadet ASP Course 17, of May 1992. 

In the course of his illustrious career in the Nigeria Police Force, the AIG has served in different parts of the country and has held several strategic positions, including but not limited to the following: –

Commissioner of Police, in charge of Election Planning, monitoring and Evaluation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Federal Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Federal Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Niger state.

Area Commander, Brass, Bayelsa State.

Commander National Inland Waterways, Lagos state.

Squadron Commander, Number four (4) Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron, Ibadan, Oyo state.

Divisional Police Officer, Eza North, Ebonyi State, among others.

The AIG has attended many courses within and outside the country.

AIG Basil Idegwu, Ph.D. has been in the fore front of most police operations in the last 8 years, especially in the following areas:

i. Member, Multi-agency, Coordination of Security during the world Cup in Russian- 2018.

ii. Member NYSC National Governing board 2021-2023.

iii. Member, Presidential Intervention on Covid-19 where he was the Coordinator security, in the mass care security and logistics sub-committee.

iv. Member transition planning committee 2019 and 2023.

v. National Coordinator- Schools Protection Squad of the Nigeria Police force.

Vi.  Security Sub-Committee Chairman, ECOWAS Summit Planning Committee 2019 to 2024.

vi. Member, tripartite committee on the repatriation of Nigeria refugees in Cameroon.

vii. Member, Election Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Team for the 2023 general elections.

It is expected that the AIG will bring his vast experience in operations to bear in the coordination of affairs of the two volatile States that make up Zone 14, Kaduna and Katsina; as the AIG Zone 14.  

The AIG is a recipient of many Awards and Commendations for excellence and meritorious service, both at home and abroad. 

He is happily Married with lovely children. His hobbies include Playing Squash, reading and Swimming.

He assumed duty as the new AIG Zone 14 Katsina on Monday, 24th of June. 2024.
