
The Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was honored to receive participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course 18 from the National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja, on 30th April, 2025 at the Command Headquarters.
Led by their Syndicate Leader, Mrs,Patricia Veronica Yanchi,the delegation visited Sokoto to understudy the efforts of key stakeholders within the security and intelligence community, particularly in addressing the current security challenges facing Nigeria. Their goal is to develop informed policy recommendations that will assist the government in formulating effective solutions to the country’s security challenges. The participants are drawn from various government agencies and foreign partner institutions, underscoring the national and international significance of this engagement.
The interactive session with the State Commandant, Commandant UI Alfadarai, fdc, MFR, MNIM, FISN, and his management team was robust, insightful, and engaging. Commandant Alfadarai addressed a wide range of critical issues, that provided a deep insights into the challenges of security management, the complexities of dealing with insecurity, and the strategic balance between kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in combating insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality.
Notably, the Commandant provided an in-depth briefing on the activities of the Lakurawa insurgents operating in the hinterlands of Sokoto, were he highlighted both the dangers they pose and the proactive measures being employed by the Command. He stressed the indispensable role of non-state actors in today’s security landscape, describing them as both inevitable and, in some contexts, a “necessary evil,” whose involvement must be carefully engaged to enhance intelligence gathering, community resilience, and operational effectiveness.
The Commandant further emphasized the importance of collaboration, coordination, and cooperation among all security agencies, as well as the critical role of information management in effectively addressing security threats across Nigeria and the broader Sub-Saharan region.
In recognition of his outstanding leadership, achievements, and innovative strategies in security management, the participants of Executive Course 18 presented a souvenir to Commandant Alfadarai. They commended his pragmatic and visionary approach in steering the Sokoto Command towards remarkable success in combating insurgency and other forms of criminality.
