In a significant move to strengthen inter-agency synergy, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Enugu State Command, Commandant Dr. Elijah Etim Willie, PhD, led a high-powered delegation of principal officers on a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoyi, at the Division Headquarters in Enugu.
The visit, rich in symbolism and strategic undertones, underscored the deepening partnership between the military and paramilitary forces in the state. The NSCDC delegation was warmly welcomed by the GOC, who was flanked by his Chief of Staff, the Garrison Commander, Brigadier General Stephen Dogo, and other senior military officers.
In his address, Commandant Willie spoke passionately about the need to institutionalize collaboration in key operational areas such as intelligence sharing, joint training exercises, and crisis response strategies. He emphasized that the security challenges of the 21st century demand unity of purpose, proactive engagement, and mutual respect among all security stakeholders.
Responding, Major General Olatoyi showered encomiums on the Commandant, acknowledging the visible transformation and operational effectiveness recorded by the Enugu NSCDC under his leadership. He lauded Dr. Willie’s visionary approach and extensive training background, noting that such qualities are vital in building inter-agency trust.
The GOC went further to recommend the formation of joint task force operations to combat criminal elements along flashpoint routes such as the Nike–Opi–Nsukka road and the Uzo Uwani axis. He emphasized that collective action in these troubled areas would help dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
Major General Olatoyi also used the occasion to urge his field commanders to work closely with the NSCDC at all levels, stressing that collaboration is not optional but essential. Specifically, he directed his Intelligence Commander to liaise directly with the NSCDC Head of Intelligence to ensure timely, actionable, and coordinated intelligence sharing that can drive swift operational responses.
The high-profile visit concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and a symbolic group photograph, capturing not just faces, but the renewed spirit of partnership and a shared commitment to securing lives and property across Enugu State.
