Having the right people in the right positions at a crucial time is essential for efficient service delivery. Without a doubt, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR—a leader forged by merit and divine providence—made an excellent choice in appointing ACC John Onoja as the Commander of the Mining Marshals.
Since its establishment on March 21, 2024, the Mining Marshals unit has played a pivotal role in restoring sanity to Nigeria’s mining sector. This has significantly contributed to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by ensuring increased royalty payments—exceeding projected figures.
In just one year, the Mining Marshals have recorded remarkable achievements, including: Over 3,000 arrests—both foreign and local illegal miners—clearing the way for certified miners to operate without interference.
Numerous convictions, reinforcing the government’s commitment to eliminating illegal mining activities.
Multiple commendations and awards, recognizing the unit’s unwavering dedication to national service.
Integrity and patriotism have remained the driving forces behind the Mining Marshals’ success. Their efforts have earned praise from the Honorable Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Henry Dele Alake, a man of integrity whose leadership continues to inspire many, especially within the mining sector.
None of these achievements would have been possible without the visionary leadership of the Honorable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, whose commitment to synergy and collaboration has strengthened security operations across the country. His dedication aligns seamlessly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has created an enabling environment for all sectors to thrive.
It is no longer business as usual but rather “Business Unusual”, ensuring accountability, efficiency, and national progress.
Congratulations to the NSCDC on this remarkable milestone!
