BRIGADIER GENERAL AS ALIYU mni MAKES HISTORY WITH DARING AIRBORNE JUMP, INSPIRES FUTURE MILITARY LEADERS

In a remarkable and rare display of leadership and courage, Brigadier General AS Aliyu mni of 1 Division, Nigerian Army, has again etched his name in history with a daring airborne jump at the Jaji Drop Zone, Jaji Military Cantonment recently.

What made the unprecedented feat even more symbolic was that he was not alone, he jumped from a NAF C-130 Hercules aircaft along with cadets from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), the future leaders of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN). The courageous event served as a powerful lesson in leadership, reinforcing the idea that true leaders do not merely command from a distance but lead by example, sharing in both the challenges and triumphs of those under their command.

As the first jumper of the day, Brigadier General Aliyu’s leap into the skies above 800 feet from an airborne aircaft, bears eloquent testimony to his courage, commitment to leadership, mentorship and excellence. According to him, his bold action was inspired by a former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General KTJ Minimah, who, as a Brigadier General, similarly took the plunge while serving as the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI) in Jaji.

Brigadier General AS Aliyu mni’s airborne jump highlights the elite training and leadership standards upheld at NASI. Interestingly, airborne training at NASI is a rigorous programme designed to prepare those daring officers and soldiers who volunteer for airborne assaults, special operations and rapid deployment missions. Through intensive ground drills, tactical exercises and five critical jumps, including night and combat-equipment jumps, soldiers develop the skills and resilience needed for high-risk operations.

Similarly, airborne training is vital for national security, particularly in counterterrorism and special operations, ensuring that troops are combat-ready and strategically agile. NASI’s collaboration with the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) further strengthens this programmes, equipping future military leaders with the expertise to tackle evolving security challenges.

The Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to shape its future leaders were visibly reinforced through this historic moment. Brig Gen AS Aliyu mni’s fearless jump will undoubtedly serve as a lasting inspiration, reminding cadets, officers, and potential airborne troops alike that leadership is about stepping forward into the unknown, alongside those who will one day take the reins of various tiers of command in their career.

Kudos and congratulations to Brigadier General AS Aliyu mni for adding yet another feather to his already distinguished career and legacy.
